Featured Cherub: Max Dingwall

Featured cherub of the week is CDH survivor Max Dingwall. His mom, Katie, had this to share about her son:

“This is Max James Dingwall who has just turned 10 years old. He was born on 2-11-09 with left sided CDH in Aberdeen, Scotland. Diagnosed at 20 weeks. We were absolutely devastated and I chose not to look at the internet. He was due to be born some 3 hrs from our home where specialists could take care of him, but he came early at 34 weeks. He has had some 15 operations.

He had a very turbulent 1st year & unfortunately at age 13 months, contracted RSV, pneumonia, pseudomonas and re-herniated. He was airlifted to a hospital some 3 hrs away and placed on life support. We lived there for 3 months and despite saying goodbye to Max, he survived.

Max was tube fed until he was 2 years old when we flew a feeding psychologist from Germany to help tube wean him. He was AMAZING. We had to fund ourselves but he did fantastic. Max is extremely healthy despite everything, but has mild learning difficulties which is a challenge. He has the best heart and is a very worthy Cherub. We are very proud of him.”
