CDH International welcomes Kentucky volunteer Brian Johnson to the team. He currently is a prayer team volunteer and Kentucky CDHi Ambassador. Brian is the father two CDH survivors Zachary and Samuel.
Brian Johnson is the father of two CDH sons, Zachary and Samuel. Zachary was diagnosed with CDH during a routine ultrasound in December 2013 and born at 38 weeks at Monroe Carroll Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. Brian and his wife, Emily, relocated from Knoxville to Nashville for Zachary’s birth. Zachary had his repair surgery on his 4th day and was discharged from the hospital on day 20. In 2017, Brian and Emily encountered another CDH diagnosis at the anatomy scan of their expected twins. Twin A was CDH while Twin B was not. Just short of 35 weeks, the twins were born at Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY, where the family had moved. Samuel was put on ECMO 7 hours after birth and was on for three days. His repair surgery was on day 6 and was finally discharged from the hospital on day 49. Both boys and their sister are typical, active children.
Brian graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in exercise science followed by obtaining a Master of Divinity degree from Campbell University. He has served four churches since 2002, primarily as minister to youth. When the rare opportunity arises for free time, Brian enjoys playing golf or relaxing with his guitar.
