Walter had this to share about his wife’s pregnancy and their CDH diagnosis, “when we first found out that my wife was expecting, we went to have a regular sonogram done on Emily. When we had it done they wanted to check out that everything was in the proper area and her organs were right and everything looked good. When we went the first time, the technician was afraid the machine wasn’t working correctly. They wanted us to try to come back another day to get a better view of Emily. So we came back a second time. They got the same picture or results as the first time the sonogram was done. They weren’t able to view her heart and stomach in the same view, the same angle. It wasn’t their machine this time, something wasn’t right.”
In regard’s to Emily’s birth and surgery, Walter had this to share, “Emily was born on the 3rd of December in 1998. It was a scheduled delivery. We had a lot of time to prepare and planned ahead of time. For 22 hours they tried to induce my wife, to try to have a regular delivery. She wasn’t able to dilate enough to deliver Emily. They finally decided that it was time to take her by C-Section.”
Walter wanted families to know, “the experience itself is never something you prepare for. No parent is ready to experience anything like that.”
Stay tuned for next week’s CDH radio show as Walter continues to share Emily was not the only family member to have been born with CDH.
