CDHi President, Dawn Ireland, attended the Meeting and Scientific Session of the International Clearinghouse for Birth Defects Surveillance and Research (ICBDSR) in October in Malta.
Epidemiology is just as important as Genetics and Pediatric Surgery if we are ever going to find the cause of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia.
In fact, it was an epidemiological study of CDH by Claudine Torfs that was the inspiration and basis of the first natural history study of CDH that was created by CDH International in 1997.
CHERUBS was created to support patient families and it did so for over 25 years, and continue to do so. 1000’s of families found information and support at our organization. There are dozens of other charities and groups now that support families also.
But CDH International was founded to stop Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia so that there will someday be no new patient families to support.
This is a job that we take very seriously because lives really do depend on what we do.
