Featured CDH International’s Oklahoma Ambassador is Kacy Hurley. Kacy is the mom to CDH survivor Mattie.
Kacy Hurley is a stay at home mom to 9 year old Cherub Mattilynn (Mattie) and 6 year old Jeremiah, wife of Jeremy Hurley, and is the OK State Ambassador for CDH International. Kacy taught Severe/Profound Special Education for 5 years before making the decision to stay at home when Mattilynn was born and now homeschools both children. The Hurley’s live in Meeker, OK. Mattilynn was born with a left sided CDH, March 15, 2011 and was given only a 10% chance of survival. She was born with less than 10% of the left side of her diaphragm. Mattilynn underwent multiple surgeries and ECMO while in the NICU. Mattilynn came home from the hospital at 3 months old with pulmonary hypertension, chronic lung disease, bronchial/tracheal malacia, on oxygen, and a gtube for help with weight gain. Mattilynn recovered from a re-herniation on her first birthday, was diagnosed with progressive scoliosis at age 3, has had a 3rd diaphragmatic hernia confirmed at age 3 which is still not repaired, and has recently been diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Mattie is currently the 2020 Champion Child for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals local affiliate Children’s Hospital Foundation in Oklahoma. Mattie is a joy to all who know her. She loves to share her story and spread awareness for CDH. Despite all she has been through, she is very active in ballet, clogging, and gymnastics.
Kacy is passionate about helping other families connect with each other to form a local support system because no one should ever have to endure this journey alone.
