Today’s featured cherub is Luna Diaz. Luna is the daughter of Dania Diaz. Dania had this to share about her daughter:
“Luna was diagnosed with a severe right-sided CDH at 20 weeks gestation in December 2011. My husband and I attempted to get help from our local hospital in North Jersey as well as specialists in NYC, but they did not give us any semblance of hope. We refused to give up. I continued to do my research and found that Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has great experience with CDH. Luckily we only live 2 hours away from Philadelphia. We consulted with the team there and were so very happy to receive a more positive prognosis and so we decided to deliver at their Special Delivery Unit. Luna was born at 39 weeks. She was born vaginally and weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces at birth. She was able to have her CDH repair at 4 days old. She did great. They were able to use muscle tissue to repair her hernia instead of an artificial patch. We were finally able to hold her at 10 days old. After 11 days on a ventilator, she was extubated. Luna continued to do well and was discharged after spending 5 weeks in the NICU. She has since been followed by the team at CHOP and thankfully continues to flourish. She is now a very happy and healthy 7 year old. She is in first grade. Luna loves singing and dancing with her 5 year old sister.”
