CDH International’s Featured Volunteer is Virginia State Representative, Lisa Baxter. Lisa is the mom to CDH survivor Lindsey.
Lisa Baxter lives in Burke, VA with her husband Jeff, and their CDH survivor Lindsey. They were diagnosed at 20 weeks with one heart defect, then another at 24 weeks, and finally CDH at 27 weeks. At the time, they were living in South Carolina. They were referred to Columbia, Charleston and then heard about the team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Jeff and her relocated to Cincinnati for almost 4 months to give Lindsey the best chance possible after being told she had less than a 50% chance of survival. Lindsey was born in February 2014 and was in the NICU for 2 ½ months. Lindsey is an amazing child and is their hero! They also have a 4 legged child, Elsa, who loves her sister very much. Lisa works part time as an independent consultant assisting organizations on their future site selections for upcoming meetings/events.
Lisa was unfamiliar with CHERUBS until another family with a CDH baby at the Ronald McDonald House told her about it. With all the chaos, she never had a chance to reach out until they brought Lindsey home from the hospital. Lisa is excited to volunteer now and help other families know they are not alone.
