John and Meda, Isabella’s parents, had this to share in regards to their pregnancy and finding out about CDH, “during an atypical 3rd ultrasound around the four and half month mark we were informed that Isabella had CDH. As time progressed and tests were conducted Isabella was determined to have a favorable case. As such, the remainder of the pregnancy looked a bit different than what we initially planned – numerous doctor appointments, tests/monitors tracking progress, and an alteration to our lifestyle. Ultimately, every measure was calculated and planned with the utmost care in mind.”
Furthermore, the 50% survival rate and other statistics they read were scary. The family’s faith in God and their amazing support system would bring the Gibison family through a difficult journey.
Isabella was a fighter from the get go, her parents described her surgery and NICU time, “having surgery at any point is a hurdle, let alone 2 days into life. Isabella was fortunate to have laparoscopic surgery conducted successfully and a subsequent short NICU stay. As neither of us had encountered the NICU before we weren’t sure what to expect; however, the nurses and doctors took amazing care of both Isabella and us during this difficult time. With the gratitude of many, Isabella amazed everyone at the NICU with her strength and was able to return home in a record 13 days.”
Isabella was fortunate enough to be born at a hospital just 40 minutes away from home. The hospital has an excellent NICU with really great outcomes.
Isabella just celebrated her 4 month birthday last week! She is happy and thriving! John and Meda share, “she is still going to therapy to ensure she is hitting the proper milestones and thus far she has been on track or ahead of schedule! With each day she is getting stronger and healthier. Some of the specialist’s assessments have been summarized to state, “Isabella will have no repercussions or lasting effects.”
Isabella’s family wants other CDH families to know, “there is always hope! Every baby is unique and miracles do happen.”
