Donette shared with us, Kimmy is her biological granddaughter, but her parents were not in a situation to raise Kimmy and they took her in and raised her after she was released from the NICU. Kimmy was diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia two weeks before she was born, which was the first time her daughter saw a doctor for a prenatal check. It was the first check that Kimmy was diagnosed with CDH and the family first heard about CDH. It was a normal pregnancy for her daughter, but Kimmy was born two weeks early when her water broke.

Donette shares, “Kimmy had surgery at 3 days old, we were told to expect the surgery to take about 2 1/2 hours and it only took 45 minutes. She had enough diaphragm to just sew it together. She was in NICU for 5 weeks and came home to our home when she was released.” She further shares, “Kimmy is now a mother to CDH survivor Nevaeh who is 9 months old still in the NICU at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.  We are all praying for the day that we can all be together as a family again.  But until then we will continue to support Kimmy and Chris as the fight and care for Nevaeh. CDH is an everyday battle. We need a cure! We need to know what causes CDH! We are winners and we can beat this with continued research!”
