Featured CDH International’s Pennsylvania Ambassador is Joy Whitesel. Joy is the mother to CDH survivor Jase.
Joy is a full-time nurse, wife, and mother. She lives in Honey Grove, PA, with her spouse and two children. They have two children, a daughter and a son. Their son, Jase, was born in 2016 with undiagnosed LCDH. Even as a pediatric home care nurse, she had never heard of CDH until they were told their son had a 50% chance of surviving this horrid birth defect. Jase was transferred from their small, rural, country hospital, to a larger facility with a NICU and had his hernia repair surgery at 6 days old. He is currently doing very well. Their experience with their son’s CDH has changed many perspectives in their lives.
The Whitesel family spreads CDH awareness whenever the opportunity arises as their lives have been forever changed by CDH. In Joy’s spare time, she likes to spend time with her family, ride bikes, and go antique shopping.
